1. Nature conservation on your doorstep

Nature is everywhere, not only in national parks or exotic places. In your home country too, we also have to treat nature with great care, preserving and protecting it effectively.

Dingxi, Gansu province, China

This project is located in the city of Dingxi in the central part of the Gansu province.

China aims to contribute to a healthier environment by increasing forested areas in previously barren lands. The afforestation, reforestation and revegetation activities are expected to increase the forest area by 49,060 hectares over the course of the project.
Forests are not only among the planet’s most important carbon reservoirs. They also are home to an enormous diversity of species. Furthermore, by protecting the forest, the soil is also protected from erosion and can store more water.

2. Clean electricity with Hydropower

Electricity from a hydropower plant is considered emission-free because energy is generated from water without fossil fuels. Hydropower is an important part of an independent, long-term energy supply and thus makes an essential contribution to a stable and sustainable supply in the region.

Example: Hydropower, Luang Namtha, Laos

The regional power grid in the Luang Namtha region in northern Laos is mainly supplied with energy from fossil fuels. In addition, there is a considerable gap between the demand and the supply of energy, so it has to be partially imported from China.

The energy generated by this climate protection project through hydropower is much more sustainable. The hydropower project contributes to a stable, sustainable and independent energy supply in the region.

3. Clean drinking water

Water is an fundamental component of life. However, millions of people suffer from water scarcity and poor hygiene. Consumption of contaminated drinking water is one of the leading causes of death in sub-Saharan Africa.

Example: Clean water for Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia

This project is based in Cambodia, with people working in response to contaminated water. This project provides clean, healthy water to over 1.7 million people. Ceramic water filtration systems based on an ancient technique are used for this purpose. The water seeps through fired clay, and 99.9% of all pollutants are filtered out.
